My First Post!
May as well start off with a small post about my Watch collection:
My collection so far:
Rolex GMT II - (the 2006 model, not the Pepsi bezel, Two Tone - Black Gold)
Its my dress watch, I can't wear it around town for fear of getting killed over it. Most people mistake it for a fake anyways... Its a shame its in the box most of time.
Omega Planet Ocean - Casino Royale limited edition
Omega Seamaster pro - James Bond limited edition (gunbarrel dial)
I am such a sucker for James Bond...
The Planet Ocean rubber strap is a pain - I find it uncomfortable and fiddly to put on (I'm more of a bracelet person. I just ordered the Omega steel bracelet for this (Limited edition purists faint....), but really - the rubber strap doesn't say LE or anything like that - its cool. I'm not going to sell it anytime soon anyways.
The SMP is a classic watch. The gunbarrel design on the dial is a bit distracting. I wear ALL my watches (well except the Rolex). The bracelet clasp scratches WAY too easily for my liking. I have several scuff marks on it and I need to find a way to get rid of the marks without harming the bracelet. Of course since it scuffs so easily... why bother. Its a distraction.
Tag Heuer Link - Tiger Woods limited edition
A really great comfortable watch. Even if it wasn't a Tiger Woods limited edition - I'd get a Link. The bracelet is really comfortable and the design is really nice. Love the sapphire back.
Oris Big Crown Flight Worldtimer - 1945 limited edition
I saw this one in a small watch shop in Komtar - really shop worn, the sales people abused the box and didn't take care of the display. I bargained the price down and knocked a few thousand ringgit off the retail price. Dual timer like the GMT but with a separate analog dial - easy to adjust the main dial when you cross time zones - great for travelling!
Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch - last man on the moon limited edition.
Its the classic stainless steel moonwatch - manual wound chronograph. The only thing thats different about this watch is just that it has a nicer engraved caseback. If your going to get a Chronograph, get the best chronograph in the world, The Omega Speedy... No, its not the Rolex Daytona - Daytonas are just purposely rare courtesy of Rolex marketing, its not the best IMO. The Speedy has been to the moon! This is the classic LeMania (sp?) movement.
Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon Titanium - Madcow
Built like a tank and a dial you can see from a mile away in the dark. Ball really makes great watches qualitywise BUT their dial designs are really ugly IMO. I'd buy more Ball watches if Ball could hire at least a competent dial designer. Great watches, fantastic night lume - ugly dials.
Tissot T-Touch Worldtimer
For when I go travelling. No sense risking a RM $10,000 watch when I travel overseas. Well yes, I contradict myself. Its a nice Quartz watch though. I also had a Tissot T-Touch Trekker but I sold it off. Titanium Tissot T-Trekkers just looked too nasty. As quartz watches go, its the best Multi-time watch I have seen (Casio and Timex watches are just too cheap looking and complicated to use). The T-Touch tech feature makes learning to use it a snap.
Omega Seamaster GMT
The original non-James Bond, Black Dial Seamaster GMT (non-CoAx). After I got my Rolex GMT II, I realized I had to have a true GMT like the Rolex that I can wear around daily (and maybe when I travel). Its a real GMT with quick set hour hands, unlike most GMTs on the market now (even from Breitling or Tag Heuer) that quick sets only the GMT hand. That style of "GMT" is useful if your a business guy who needs to track the time of your overseas customers or someone who needs to track the time of someone else travelling. For a real traveller, the Rolex/Omega GMTs are the most convenient
Tag Heuer Quartz from 1991 (my first watch)
Wish list (stuff to dream about):
Rolex Submariner LV - the "kermit" with green bezel, 50th anniversary Sub.
Good luck trying to get that at Penang, even in KL I would think. Sales people can't be bothered to even volunteer to order it for you in Penang. They just say, "no stock" here and ignore you. And people wonder why pirated goods are so popular...
Rolex Datejust - Rolex does not make it easy to look up the model #. I know it when I see it. If I get one, it will probably be from Singapore as its hopeless to deal with the Penang dealer.
Ulysse Nardin GMT - Someone give me lots of money...
Patek Phillipe Nautilus (the one with all the complications + gold) - Lots and lots of money...
